Veilside MR2 Turbo Enhancement

Today was a much anticipated detail on a very unique MR2 Turbo with a Veilside body kit, afterburner rear lights, “sleepy” quad HID headlights and a custom perspex rear windscreen.

The package performed on this vehicle was Gold.

On Arrival

The car was looking quite tired in places, definitely in need of some detailing TLC.

First up were the alloy wheels.

The alloys were treated with a wheel brightener, later in the detail, the lip was treated with a metal polish, and then protected with Migliore’s Wheel Sealant. The tyres were also dressed.

Next up was the stainless steel exhaust, which had seen better days!

The exhaust was treated with wire wool and then treated with a metal polish later in the detail.

The vehicle was then treated to an obligatory snow foam:

Next up was claying the vehicle.

Contaminants removed from the bonnet:

Not bad at all, mostly sap.

Below is the worst contamination removed, which was from the drivers side wing:

The paintwork was then assessed under halogens:

with a nasty scratch in the middle, this completely polished out with Lime Prime!

Mostly oxidisation and light swirls to contend with, along with the odd scratch.

A paint thickness assessment was then undertaken, showing that only the doors and bonnet were original. The front wings were reading from 700-1000 microns  – Lots of paint to work with though!

The vehicle was treated in very much the same way with Lime Prime.

There were a few remaining marks, but a vast improvement from just a 1-step machine polish.

The vehicle was then protected with Valentines Concours Wax, as well as the rubbers/plastics being dressed, the windows were polished, plus the owner took time to work on the engine bay.

Sutil expects to remain at Force India

Adrian Sutil now thinks it is likely that he will remain at Force India next season, after his team took up the option it has on his contract for next year.

The team’s option on Sutil for 2010 expired this week, and Sutil has confirmed to AUTOSPORT that the Silverstone-based outfit has activated it to ensure it has first call on his services for next season. The German has been linked with moves to both McLaren and Toyota for next year in recent weeks.

“They [Force India] have taken it already,” said Sutil. “It is nice to see that they like my work, and they believe in me.

“I like the team a lot, it is my first team, and I feel really well here. That is why I am very relaxed. In any case I will be in F1 and I have no problem to do another year here. It is looking really good.”

Although taking up the option does not guarantee that a contract will definitely follow, Sutil says that the indications are that things will get sorted.

“I am not totally sure where I am going to end up, but most likely I will be here with this team for another year,” he explained. “Something else could happen, but right now that [staying here] is what I am thinking.”

Toyota Hybrid - "Two better than one" (TV ad)

Toyota’s Australian division is ramping up its advertising efforts on its hybrid synergy drive technology as the company is getting ready to introduce a total of eight new hybrid models to the market over the next four years, starting with the locally built Camry Hybrid in February 2010. To get the key message around, Toyota aired a new locally produced television commercial called “Better Together” that was created by Sydney advertising agency Saatchi and Saatchi.

There are no cars in the advertisement which shows a man with another version of himself standing behind and helping him around with his daily chores – just like an electric motor assists the gasoline engine in Toyota’s hybrid models.

“The key message is ‘Better Together’ – that two things working together can achieve more than any one thing ever could,” says Toyota Australia’s senior executive director sales and marketing, David Buttner. “It is a metaphor for Hybrid Synergy Drive technology, which continues to improve, produce more power and use less fuel with fewer emissions,” he said.

The Hybrid Synergy Drive ‘Better Together’ commercial went to air in Australia on the evening of Sunday, 25 October.

Região do Grande ABC produz 26% da frota nacional de veículos

O Grande ABC responde por 26% do total de veículos produzidos no País. Em 2008, dos 3,2 milhões de automóveis, comerciais leves, caminhões e ônibus fabricados, 835 mil saíram das sete montadoras da região – Volkswagen, General Motors, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Scania, Toyota e Karmann Ghia. A região também foi responsável por 26% do total das vendas ao atacado, com 758 mil unidades.

Os dados, levantados pela Anfavea (Associação Nacional dos Fabricantes de Veículos Automotores), foram revelados pelo presidente da entidade, Jackson Schneider, durante o 1º Fórum Internacional de Relações Multilaterais Econômico-Comerciais/CF, realizado em São Bernardo.

“O ABC é praticamente um País automotivo e emprega cerca de 39% do trabalhadors no setor, o que equivale a 42.043 pessoas”, afirma.

Para Schneider, um dos maiores desafios da indústria automobilística é recuperar as exportações, que já chegaram a 900 mil unidades. No ano passado, foram 742,4 mil veículos, sendo que, destes, 33% (245 mil) foram produzido no Grande ABC. A expectativa deste ano não ultrapassa 450 mil unidades.

“O Brasil tem muito a se superar em tecnologia. Apesar de hoje ser ele quem exporta às matrizes a tecnologia dos veículos compactos, precisamos atrair investimentos, já que existe no mundo todo uma capacidade ociosa de 21 milhões de unidades para serem fabricadas.”

Ele ressaltou, ainda, que uma das saídas está no estímulo ao uso de biocombustíveis para que, tanto a frota nacional quanto a dos outros países, seja substituída por veículos flex. “Se na África se conseguisse inserir 5% de álcool na gasolina, já seria um início para gerar empregos e atrair investimentos, além de ser um nicho futuro para carros flex.”

Também presente no evento, o secretário-geral do Ministério das Relações Exteriores, Samuel Pinheiro Guimarães, destacou que só São Bernardo responde por 7% do PIB (Produto Interno Bruto) brasileiro – cerca de R$ 203 bilhões -, em grande parte por conta da presença de seis das sete montadoras da região.

Segundo Guimarães, a ideia é aumentar o número de produtores de etanol, a fim de torná-lo commodity internacional. “Precisamos, ainda, diversificar o parque industrial brasileiro, aproveitando as oportunidades do pré-sal e as energias alternativas, como a eólica.”

Quanto ao pré-sal, o ministro das Relações Institucionais, Alexandre Padilha, anunciou que de 2009 a 2013 serão investidos US$ 104 bilhões. “Haverá 296 novas embarcações, serão contratados 40 navios-sonda e plataformas de perfuração e 19 usinas de energia serão construídas”.

Ontem, os cerca de 450 funcionários da unidade de Capuava defenderam greve caso não haja proposta satisfatória da empresa até sexta-feira. “Além de votar algumas questões como feriados de Natal e Ano Novo, votamos também que a fábrica vai parar caso não haja um acordo favorável até o fim da semana”, afirma Sapão.

Hoje, os cerca de 750 metalúrgicos da unidade de Utinga da Eluma realizam assembleia. “Estamos pressionando as empresas, pois a data-base da categoria é 1º de novembro. Como os sindicatos patronais estão demorando para apresentar propostas, estamos tentando negociações individuais”, explica o diretor do sindicato, Sivaldo da Silva Pereira, o Espirro.

O sindicato representa 24 mil metalúrgicos da região e reivindica reposição salarial de 10%, além da redução de jornada semanal de 44 para 40 h.

Preparations almost complete

I’ve been grumpy since Saturday. My wife knows it. My daughter knows it. If I had a dog, the dog sure would have known about it.

But its ok. I’m better now. You see on Saturday afternoon, the car wouldn’t start. Just wouldn’t fire. Pulled the plugs, cleaned them up, tried again. Still nothing. And that’s where it started.

I was breaking rule number 2. No Sookin!

I thought that, after not racing for close to 18 months I was going to miss this weekend’s bonanza event at Oran Park. And I was not happy about it.

I was allowed to have a play with it again this afternoon – and chief engine guru (AKA Ashley Birks) suggested plugs also. I pulled an old set out of the tool box, and give it a go. First crank, she roared into life. WOOHOO!! So I continued the prep: a little panel beating on an old love tap, bleed the brakes, mount new fire extinguisher, and we’re almost ready to go.

I’m even thinking of taking the car out on Friday afternoon now, to get a head start on Saturday morning. Improved Production Unders are early in the program, so need to be organised.

Future Facts #4: Cars

Many people think during your time that in the future flying cars will be an important thing. That was attempted in the 2020s but their use was basically rendered impractical since we already had important technology like airplanes already invented. In the 2020s people thought flying cars were pretty stupid since they already had cars that could travel at speeds of 7 miles/second. It was problematic to invent flying cars, because our technology was so advanced that the cars could breed with one another. Now the skies are full of these pests and Automobile Control has to come out with a shotgun every Tuesday and tries to keep their numbers down.

Bloody pests.

The cars in my time are pretty similar to the car in the show Knight Rider. They talk to you annoyingly and you always want to argue with them. But they’re always smarter than you!

Cars in our time never get into wrecks because they only travel through tubes independent of other cars. Every car has its own tube. You antiquated folk in your own time wished you had thought of that. Each car tube only leads to one path so you better choose wisely. Also, you gotta make sure you schedule the tube at the right time because you can’t go into the tube without another car having exited it. That way you can insure yourself 100% safety.

Incidentally cars in our time don’t even have wheels. In place of their wheels, they have anvils. That way they remain heavily stuck to the conveyer belt that carries them through a tube. The great thing about TCACT (stands for Tube Car Anvil Conveyer Technology) is that tubes can be constructed ubiquitously and so you can take your car virtually everywhere, even into the comfort of your own home!

Before TCACT, we sometimes wanted to make moving through traffic easier. We thought, “how do we get through all those terrible red lights?” that you fellow present folk find yourself in. Well we devised a system of ramps. When a car needed to move ahead of the traffic, it would eject a ramp out in front of itself, and then it would jump the ramp and thus jump the rest of the cars. Problem solved. This unfortunately resulted in a lot of fatalities. Sometimes cars would jump out in front of other cars colliding with other cars jumping other cars. It was just pure ramp jumping chaos. So a plan was devised by Henry Ford IX to come up with a system of tubes.

Car tubes basically fill all of our skies, all of our earth, and all of our oceans but it’s very much worth it since no car will ever collide with another car or anything, thus insuring 100% safety. We’ve basically transformed our planet into a pure tubal planet. But trust me, 100% safety has been worth every tube! Tube Car Anvil Conveyor Technology has made our world a better place and is the realization of the dreams of Henry Ford IX.

You stupid primitives think that hydrogen fuel cells will be the fuel of the future. Well, we skipped the fuel cells which were ridiculous and just went to hydrogen tank cars. These are way more awesome though they do routinely burst into flames Hindenburg style.

Now thats how you ride in style!

People from the early 21st century pursued such technology because they felt that fossil fuels were too wasteful. The truth was that they weren’t wasteful enough. Without all that pollution, we have entire cities controlled by grizzly bears and trees keep bullying people as they walk down the street. And all of us were trained from birth to love nature so it’s hard for us to stand up for ourselves.

Peak oil wasn’t that big of a deal, but peak Neon really destroyed the transportation industry as most of the money spent on cars was to furnish them with neon lights on the sides so they’d look really futuristic. Detroit was eventually switched to plain old fashioned flourescent lighting.

Of course, many of you are interested in the car I used to travel back in time initially as I discussed back in the late 90s. But I keep telling you people, that car was just a period model so I’d look inconspicuous. I think it was a Dolerean or something like that. Very standard for the time. Time machines are not standard in most cars from my time, but if you get licensed after a 45 minute safety course you can have one installed. Most people get these so that they can get to work on time when they are running late. This would be fine, but a lot of people are too lazy to kill the time travel duplicate like they should, and there are tons of frequently late people clogging the streets now.

One fact about cars that you may enjoy is that they now drive themselves for the most part. This should appeal to you since you are all so lazy and drunk all the time.

Reorganización de recursos

Sí, siempre estamos volviendo a la idea fundamental que estudiamos en el año pasado:

Los recursos son escasos y pueden asignarse a diferentes fines, por lo que debemos administrarlos buscando la mayor eficiencia.

De forma continua la humanidad está reorganizando cómo asigna estos recursos, buscando sus destinos más rentables.

El reto de la economía es gestionar la escasez

Esta semana se ha hablado mucho de los coches eléctricos.


Podemos estudiar la evolución de la empresa moderna, siguiendo la evolución de la industria del motor en el siglo XX :

- El Ford T (1908), como ejemplo de empresa orientada a la producción y a la eficiencia (enfoque de Taylor).

- La diversificación en marcas de la General Motors (Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick y Cadillac)  emprendida por Alfred Sloan (1923)  para atender las necesidades de los consumidores (enfoque de Drucker).

- La producción flexible de Toyota (finales de los años cincuenta), siguiendo las ideas de la búsqueda de la  calidad total de Edwards Deming.

Y ahora estamos ante el siguiente salto estructural, pasar del motor de combustión al motor eléctrico.

Me ha gustado mucho la información sobre coches eléctricos publicada en el blog  Tierra Renovables

“En aproximadamente unos 3 años será factible disponer de un vehículo eléctrico que sólo tarde cinco minutos en cargar su batería en vez de 7 u 8 horas que tardan actualmente.”

Y hoy,  en El País hablaban de costes:

“El coste de un poste de recarga no llega a 1.000 dólares, unos 650 euros

…la recarga costará menos de 1,5 euros cada 100 kilómetros…”


Otra reorganización de recursos que me ha llamado la atención, en relación a la epidemia de embarazos en una escuela de secundaria de Chicago (115 embarazadas de 800 alumnas):

“Lo más sorprendente es que enfrente del colegio, en un lugar que antes se dedicaba a la venta de crac, ahora se está construyendo una guardería“

Toyota unveils new hybrid-only car model

TOKYO: Toyota Motor Corp. has unveiled a more expensive and bigger hybrid-only model than its hit Prius, underlining the Japanese automaker’s ambitions to make green technology more widespread.

The “Sai” sedan is Toyota’s second hybrid-only model after the Prius. Toyota offers hybrid versions of other car models.

Sai, which means “talent” and “color,” will be sold only in Japan, starting Dec.7, targeting monthly sales of 3,000 vehicles.

No global sales plans have been decided, the world’s biggest automaker said Tuesday.

Hybrids get better mileage than regular gasoline engine cars by switching between an electric motor and a gas engine.

Other automakers are also beefing up their hybrid lineups, including hybrid-only models.

Government incentives, including cash-for-clunkers programs, and tax breaks are sending Prius orders soaring in Japan, with the waiting list for the car growing to several months.

Hybrid sales in Japan have been the one bright spot for Toyota, which has been losing money, battered by the global economic slump.

The Sai gets 23 kilometers per liter, or about 54 miles per gallon, double the mileage of a comparable regular gas-engine model, according to Toyota.

The Prius gets 38 kilometers per liter, which converts to about 90 miles per gallon under Japanese mileage-test conditions. It is promising 51 mpg in the city and 48 mpg on the highway in the U.S.

The Sai comes with a bigger 2.4 liter engine compared to the 1.8-liter Prius, is roomier and has fancier features such as an interior made from plastic that uses plant-derived materials.

It is also more expensive, starting at 3.38 million yen (US$37,500).

The third-generation Prius, which went on sale earlier this year, starts at just over 2 million yen ($22,000) in Japan and about $22,000 in the U.S.

The Sai looks rather sedate compared to the Prius with its more circular styling.

“This model shows our hopes to make hybrids more widespread,” Toyota official Takuji Nakamoto told reporters.

The Sai will be sold at all dealer outlets in Japan, totaling some 4,000 nationwide, like the Prius.

Some Toyota models are sold at just some of the showrooms because they are designed to appeal to certain kinds of consumers.

The Sai will be assembled at a Toyota Motor Kyushu plant in southwestern Japan, Toyota said.

Someone at Toyota, Saatchi thought cyber-stalking was a good marketing idea

In order to market its then-new Matrix model, Saatchi & Saatchi proposed and Toyota OK’d a campaign whereby people who “opted-in” would get “e-mails for five days from a fictitious man called Sebastian Bowler, from England, who said he was on the run from the law, knew [the person] and where [he/she lived] and was coming to [his/her] home to hide from the police.” And oh, by the way, the participants were entered into the event by people who wanted to set up friends to be "punked."

What could possibly go wrong with that?

Plenty. So much that Amber Duick of LA has filed suit against the carmaker over emotional distress caused by being on the receiving end of the stunt.

Although Bowler did not have Duick’s current address, he sent her links to his My Space page as well as links to video clips of him causing trouble all over the country on his way to her former house in Los Angeles, according to the lawsuit.  "Amber mate! Coming 2 Los Angeles. Gonna lay low at your place for a bit till it all blows over," the man wrote in one e-mail.

You may not have thought it possible, but it gets even stupider.

Duick’s attorney said the marketing company went so far as to send Duick a bill for damages the fictitious man supposedly made to a hotel room. "Amber, ran into a little problem at the hotel," a note with the invoice stated. "After I’m done visiting you, I’m going to go back and sort out that front desk Muppet."

The company’s defense? “Well, she did agree to the opt-in.” Said opt-in was buried in an emailed “personality test” which contained a link to a web page allegedly explaining what was going to happen. Duick’s lawyer characterizes the explanatory note as “indecipherable.” This point seems reasonable as you could hardly expect to punk someone who knows what’s coming.

The entire thing begs two questions:

  • WTF was someone smoking when he/she OK’d this?
  • What the hell was the campaign supposed to accomplish?

Saatchi & Saatchi told the marketing magazine OMMA last year that it had developed the campaign to target men under 35 who hate advertising. The prank campaign, Saatchi creative director Alex Flint told the magazine, should gain the appreciation from "even the most cynical, anti-advertising guy.

HUH? How the hell does this actually sell the product? It sure as hell isn’t going to make anyone less cynical or anti-advertising. I want to ask did it ever once occur to anyone that even “men under 35” have been known to have problematic people in their lives – but we already know the answer.

Sadly this campaign is excluded for this year’s list of Top 10 (or so) marketing blunders as it took place in 2008. However, I suspect it may receive a special citation from a certain special interest group.

Si ghiciti cine s-a trezit sa faca ceva in legatura cu asta?Producatorii de masini ,sa reduca ei noxele si consumul de carburant sa salveze ei planeta.Pai ma! Si atentie la ce va zic: 15 vapoare mari de marfa,polueaza cat 50 de milioane de masini intr-un an!Voi , ma intelegeti?Da puneti vapoarele sa scada noxele , nu faceti asta cu masinile…

Bine macar ca mai e speranta, de exemplu Toyota… Toyota e singura marca de care  stiu ca a reusit sa echilibreze raportul dintre eficentizare si puterea, ce genereaza placerea de a conduce.Mi se pare genial ce fac proiectantii de la Toyota, ei au inteles ce ne nemultumeste pe noi.Si desi stiau ca nu puteau sa ramana in urma fata de celalte branduri care faceau mari eforturi sa-si eficientizeze masinile,ei au reusit sa faca imposibilul.Masini rapide cu consum redus si noxe de poluare mai putine. Nu e de mirare ca Toyota surclaseaza toate celelalte candidate ale sale,ei sunt singuri care au reusit sa creeze ce altii nu au putut…un balans intre cei doi factori controversati pe piata auto internationala in momentul actual.

Dar ei nu s-au oprit aici .Au continuat,design durabilitate tehnologie,siguranta sunt numai cateva caracteristici ale unei Toyota. Au evoluat peste tot. La ei sigur iti vei gasi masina potrivita si asta pentru ca au din toate.Daca stai la munte , nicio problema Hilux , Land Cruiser,Land Cruiser V8 sunt garantia ta ca nu vei ramane impotmolit in zilele ploioase.Dar stai , tu stai la oras? Nici o problema ,tot cei de la Toyota vin cu Prius ,Auris,AYGO sau Iq. Dar poate ca tu iti doresti un Suv.Insa crezi ca Land Cruiser e un pic cam mare pentru oras?Ei bine ei s-au gandit si la asta…Urban Cruiser este perechea ta.Consum redus, siguranta,design armonios si ergonomic,tractiune integrala si totul la un pret de invidiat! Si bine inteles nu am putea uita ,prea binele cunoscute modele :Avensis si Rav4 care in opinia mea sunt piesele de rezistenta cu care Toyota isi “ataca ” adversarii.

Toyota lança linha 2010 do Auris no Japão

Mais novidades chegam ao mercado japonês próximo à abertura das portas do Salão de Tóquio. Uma delas é a linha 2010 do hatch Auris, derivado do Corolla. O estilo recebeu mudanças, mas não há grandes modificações na parte mecânica, exceto pela nova transmissão. Agora há um câmbio CVT para o 1.8 16v do modelo.

Entre as principais mudanças, a linha 2010 do Auris conta com novos para-choques, maior grade frontal e faróis redesenhados. Rodas de liga leve ganharam novo contorno e há opções de tonalidades diferenciadas para a carroceria. Por dentro, o modelo conta com novos porta-objetos, volante redesenhado e materiais de revestimento de melhor qualidade.

Esperando noticias de Japón

Entre el 24 de octubre y el 4 de noviembre se realizará el Tokio Motor Show. El mundo automotor está lleno de rumores sobre lo que se presentara en este. Para mi, lo que m´sa expectativas me genera autos a mostrarse son el Toyota FT-86 (http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/toyota-ft-86-2009-10-06). Este auto es un proyecto en conjunto con Subaru y corresponde a un coupè de 4 puertas y tracción trasera. Me llama la atención por que se sale de los estandares a los que nos tienen acostumbrados esas marcas y parece ser un concepto fresco, llamativo y principalmente uno de esos autos que te pone una sonrisa en la cara. Por que al final del día, eso es todo lo que nos interesa.

Tommi Mäkinen + Subaru = Kimi in der WRC?

Während vor allem österreichische Journalisten Kimi Räikkönen in den Brause-Renner jubeln wollen und dabei scheinbar völlig übersehen, dass Red Bull Racing für 2009 das Budget um fast 20% hatte kürzen müssen und sich schwerlich einen Mann wird leisten können, der eine 25 Millionen Euro Jahresgehalt bezieht. Wahr ist jedoch, dass Kimi von der finnischen Rallye-Legende Tommi Mäkinen für das neue Subaru-Werksteam umworben wird.


Tommi Mäkinen Racing wird das neue Subaru-Werksteam in der WRC sein und der siebenfache Rallye-Weltmeister möchte Kimi Räikönen in einem der Subaru Impreza STR 010 an Bord haben, spätestens wenn das Team 2011 mit dem 1.6-Liter-Auto in der WM debütiert.Den Einsatz wird Tapsa Laukkanen leiten, Ex-Rallyepilot Markku Alén ist im kommerziellen Bereich involviert und möchte einen Subaru für seinen Sohn Anton Alén Jr. sicherstellen.

Dies würde perfekt in Kimis Pläne passen, denn scheinbar muss ihm Ferrari sein volles Gehalt als Abfindung bezahlen, sollte er kein siegfähiges Cockpit in der Formel 1 finden. Sollte er 2010 Formel 1 fahren, dann aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach bei McLaren. BrawnGP wäre nur dann eine Variante, wenn Mercedes-Benz das Multimillionen-Gehalt übernimmt. Eine Variante wäre eine Ein-Jahres-Vertrages mit Toyota für 2010, der ihm die Freiheit gäbe Ende 2010 zu entscheiden, in welcher Sparte er seine Karriere fortsetzen will.

Bella, quasi imponente e grintosa con le appendici aerodinamiche più accentuate (spoiler del paraurti anteriore, spoiler sul cofano posteriore, minigonne) e i cerchi regolari da 17 pollici, invece che gli opzionali più parchi nei consumi da 15 pollici. Questa cosa che pagando di più si possono avere a richiesta cerchi più piccoli fa sorridere: sarà l’unico caso al mondo.

Però continuo a preferire esteticamente la Insight, soprattutto nel frontale. Adesso si cominciano a vedere abbastanza.

Paoblog: Considerando poi che con le ruote più piccole la frenata peggiori decisamente, il fatto di pagare un supplemento per una guidabilità peggiore (e, di conseguenza, una riduzione della sicurezza) è oltremodo strano…

Ainda é cedo para dizer se as imagens deste post com projeções do próximo Honda Civic e Toyota Corolla são verdadeiras. Provalvelmente a resposta só será conhecida lá pelo ano de 2011 ou 2012, mas não custa imaginar.

As imagens apareceram no site Burlappcars e pelo que se viu eles irão mudar radicalmente. É verdade que os dois irão manter as tendências inauguradas nas gerações atuais, mas com grandes alterações.

O Civic ficou ainda mais futurista. A dianteira conseguiu ser ainda mais esticada e na projeção há até um aerofólio traseiro, tudo para ressaltar a esportividade do modelo. Já o Corolla caiu mais para o lado do hatch Yaris, que faz bastante sucesso atualmente na Europa. Porém, ele manteve a classe do atual modelo e o ar mais série.

No mercado brasileiro os dois carros brigam cabeça a cabeça pela preferência dos consumidores. O Honda foi lançado em 2006 e o Toyota no ano seguinte. No último mês, o campeão foi o Toyota com mais de 5 mil unidades vendidas, mas no acumulado o Honda ainda leva vantagem.

Com certeza até surgirem as novas gerações os dois modelos ainda estaram brigando. E, pelo jeito, a batalha não irá acabar nas próximas gerações. Só o tempo irá dizer se as imagens acima estavam certas. Voltamos a conversar em 2012.

Salão de Tóquio: Toyota FT-86 Concept

Eis a prévia do que será o novo esportivo japonês, que poderia ressucitar o nome Celica. Fruto de um projeto de cooperação entre Toyota e Subaru, o conceito FT-86, que será apresentado durante o Salão de Tóquio. Ele foi desenhado na Europa e é inspirado no AE-86.

Com visual moderno e esportivo, o FT promete ser um esportivo de peso para enfrentar o Nissan GT-R e o Honda CR-Z. Ele tem 4,16 metros de comprimento, 1,76 m de largura, 1,26 m de altura e 2,57 m de entre-eixos. A intenção é oferecer o motor 2.0 boxer da Subaru, com tração integral para o veículo desta marca e traseira para o da Toyota.

Ao que tudo indica, suas vendas se iniciam em 2011.

Toyota recalls 3.8 million cars over floor mat risk: report


WASHINGTON, Oct 6, 2009 (AFP) – Toyota has launched a massive recall of 3.8 million vehicles in the United States due to a potential problem with floor mats that could cause the gas pedal to stick, US media have reported.


The world’s number one automaker informed the US government of the recall — initially described by Toyota last month as a “safety warning” — in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), according to a report by an NBC television affiliate.


The recall launched Monday was issued in the wake of a deadly crash in California believed to be the result of an accelerator pedal that got trapped and stuck by a floor mat.


“Toyota will voluntarily notify its customers of this campaign and will voluntarily cooperate with NHTSA’s recall procedures,” Toyota assistant manager for technical and regulatory affairs Chris Santucci wrote in the letter posted on the NBC affiliate’s website.

GP Japón. Hay días...

Hay días que más vale que no amanezca, e incluso semanas, pero por si alguien lo duda, para Alguersuari y Glock más vale que hubiese pasado este GP de tirón, y pensar en el siguiente, pues sendos accidentes tanto en entrenos –para ambos- como en carrera –para Jaime- han dado al traste con las ganas de hacer algo bonito, y más en Suzuka, técnico y rápido donde los haya, pero, una cosa es como empieza el cuento y otra es como acaba, y este cuento ha sido de esos de terror.

Espeluznante, digno de la mejor Noche de Difuntos el accidente de Timo Glock (y no Halloween, que estamos en España), pues a más de uno le sobrevino el fantasma del accidente de Schumacher con las consecuencias que tuvo para el Káiser y su pierna, gravemente herida, e incluso por momentos el de Senna, pues al estar atrapado en el coche asustó  a más de uno, menos mal que todo ha quedado en un golpe de esos de campeonato y el próximo GP estará a bordo de su Toyota, al cual Alguersuari ha emulado en la vuelta 45 de este GP nipón , soso y descafeinado, pero uno menos para Button y su objetivo, ser esta temporada el vencedor.

 

Vettel de cabo a rabo, pues los de las alas si que las han aprovechado, pese a un Webber con bastante mala suerte tras accidente en entrenos y salida desde el Pit Lane, al no dejar ni las raspas de su Red Bull,  secundado por los renacidos Toyota en manos de Jarno Trulli, haciendo honor a su fama de irregular, pues hay días que lo borda y otros, normalmente la mayoría, se convierte en un piloto más bien gris. Hamilton tercero, establecería la tripleta de los mejor clasificados, tal y como acabaría la carrera, sosa, sosa…

Raikkonen hizo gala de su desidia, no yendo más allá del 4 en entrenos y carrera, con un coche bastante mejor que los precedentes, y es que añadida dicha desidia al “way of life” del finés, no es de extrañar en absoluto.

El resto de la tropa, tras la que organiza en la curva R130 Buemi en entrenos y las dichosas banderas, son sancionados, y entre malas prestaciones de unos y sanciones de otros, hacen que pilotos como Alguersuari salgan en 5ª fila, y décimo clasificado, pese a las protestas de Alonso, Button y demás, lo cual ya enrarece aún más el hecho de correr en Japón, clásico donde los haya, pero exótico y siempre lleno de anécdotas. Rosberg y Heifeld seguirían a los cuatro primeros y unos magníficos Button y Barrichello, que en orden inverso a como han sido aquí mencionados, añadieron unos puntos valiosos como el oro, pese al recorte de Vettel con respecto a ellos, y es que, insisto en ello, la cabeza de Ross Brawn no tiene cerebro, sino un ordenador diseñado para dirigir un equipo de F1. Felicidades de nuevo, mr. Brawn.

Los Force India vuelven a su sitio, Fisichella de igual modo que en el GP anterior y los de Toro Rosso, mejor no hablar. De cara al año que viene, más de uno hace ya las maletas, pues a buen seguro, Kovalainen lo tiene crudo, muy crudo, Grosjean tres cuartos de lo mismo (y no por falta de talento), Heifeld no parece entrar en los planes de nadie, salvo en Renault como segundo de Kubica, que a lo mejor la lía y de su teórico paso a la escudería ahora dirigida por Bob Bell, salta a la de Whitmarsh, con lo cual la carambola está servida. Pensemos en ello.

 

Nos queda Abu Dhabi, donde si nada lo remedia (salvo una hipotética salida de Alonso a Ferrari antes de tiempo, factible a causa de los acontecimientos) tendremos más de lo mismo.

President Akio Toyoda said his money-losing automaker is “grasping for salvation” as it struggles to return to profit. The world’s largest car company was once targeting annual sales of 10 million vehicles but now expects sales of 7.3 million this year, down from 8.97 million in 2008, Toyoda said today at a news conference here. Citing the five stages of corporate decline outlined by Jim Collins, author of How the Mighty Fall, the Toyota chief warned that his company has slumped to stage four, which Collins calls “grasping for salvation.” “We are grasping for salvation,” Toyoda said, adding that the company already has spiraled through the first three stages: (1) hubris born of success, (2) undisciplined pursuit of more and (3) denial of risk and peril. His self-admonitions echoed the apologies commonly made by Japanese executives who take responsibility for financial turmoil or corporate scandal. 

 Grim assessment While Toyota is far from entering the fifth stage — capitulation to irrelevance or death — Toyoda’s grim assessment was clearly meant to underscore the challenges he faces after only three months as president. They also seemed aimed at ensuring customers that he grasped the severity of the situation and was committed to reversing Toyota’s malaise. “Toyota has become too big and distant from its customers,” the grandson of the automaker’s founder said as he prepares for a second-straight year of substantial financial and unit-sale decreases. In the United States, Toyota’s sales fell 13 percent in September from a year earlier as the market suffered a sharp letdown after the government-funded cash-for-clunkers program ran out. Total U.S. sales tumbled 23 percent. Toyota is down 28 percent for the year.

Separately, Toyoda called the current dollar-yen rate “very tough,” saying the weak U.S. currency made it difficult to return to profit on an unconsolidated level. “When you get to this level, it makes it difficult to return to profit on sales growth alone,” he said. Toyota recalls 3.8 million U.S. Toyota & Lexus models

Something as simple as floor mats has caused the world’s biggest manufacturer to plan a recall of 3.8 million cars. Toyota is planning to recall Toyota and Lexus models in the United States for the largest ever recall in the company’s history.

The issue? Floor mats that may snag accelerator pedals and cause vehicles to accelerate at high speeds.

The issue was raised when four people were killed in a Lexus in San Diego last month. Before the crash, a passenger inside the brand new Lexus ES350 had called emergency and told dispatchers that the accelerator pedal was stuck and the car was speeding at up to 200km/h.

Although the investigation into the accident is still continuing, Irv Miller, a spokesman for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc said a floor mat catching on the accelerator may have caused that crash.

The cars which are affected (U.S. models only) are 2007 to 2010 Camrys; 2005 to 2010 Avalons; 2004 to 2009 Priuses; 2005 to 2010 Tacomas and 2007 to 2010 Tundras. Lexus models are 2007 to 2010 ES 350s and 2006 to 2010 IS 250s and IS 350s.

While U.S. authorities have urged owners to remove the drivers’ floor mat Toyota U.S.A has told owners that incase a mat does catch on the pedal, owners should pull back the mat and dislodge it. If the mat doesn’t dislodge, owners should step firmly on the brake pedal with both feet, shift into neutral or as a last resort turn off the engine.

This is not the first time Toyota U.S.A. has had issues with floor mats, in September 2007 the Big T recalled an all-weather floor mat from particular 2007 and 2008 Lexus ES 350 and Toyota Camry vehicles due to similar issues.

Australian Lexus or Toyota customers have nothing to worry about as the recall does not affect Australian delivered vehicles.
